Glass Cut List Optimizer & Sheet Cutting Calculator
Optimize Glass Cutting Layouts, Stock Sheets & Reusable Offcuts
Optimize rectangular glass panes across full sheets and reusable offcuts. Use inventory first, plan guillotine-style score-and-break layouts, calculate purchases and cost, separate reusable offcuts from true waste, and create clear workshop cutting sheets.
Choose units & describe the glass
Plain dimensions use the selected unit. Explicit units such as 3210mm, 3.21m, 96in or 8ft are also accepted.
Project / job details (optional — shown on cutting sheets)
Enter stock glass sheets & usable offcuts
Add full sheets already available, rectangular offcuts in your rack, and/or standard sizes that may be purchased. Set quantity to 0 for a purchase-only sheet size.
Enter required glass panes (cut list)
Use the pane mark from the glazing schedule if available. Rotation can be locked for coated, patterned or otherwise directional glass.
Paste stock sheets from Excel / CSV
Paste pane cut list from Excel / CSV
Advanced glass cutting & purchasing settings
Your optimized glass cutting plan
1. What glass to use & what to purchase
Existing full sheets and usable offcuts are consumed first. Purchase quantities include your selected buffer.
2. Quick workshop cutting summary
Each row is one repeatable instruction: take this stock sheet → repeat this pattern → produce these panes → keep the reusable rectangles.
3. Glass cutting cards & 2D layouts
Every layout follows recursive guillotine-style splits. Coloured rectangles are finished panes; green rectangles meet the reusable-offcut rules; red areas are small scrap; dashed lines show score / cut lines.
4. Reusable glass offcuts to keep
These rectangular leftovers meet your reusable width, height and optional area thresholds. They can be downloaded as an inventory list or pushed directly back into a new optimization.
5. Engineering & material breakdown
How this plan was calculated
Glass Cut List Optimizer, Glass Cutting Software & Sheet Cutting Calculator
This free glass cut list optimizer is designed for rectangular flat-glass cutting jobs where finished panes must be arranged across full stock sheets and reusable rectangular remnants. It combines a glass cutting optimizer, sheet cutting calculator and practical workshop cutting-plan generator in one browser tool.
Unlike a simple area calculator, it considers stock-sheet dimensions, available inventory, purchasable sheet sizes, 90° rotation rules, edge trim, optional cutting allowance, reusable offcuts, purchase cost and guillotine-style cutting sequences.
How to use the glass cutting calculator
- Enter stock glass: add full sheets and rectangular offcuts already available, plus any standard sheet sizes that can be purchased.
- Add the glass cut list: enter each pane mark, finished width, finished height, quantity and whether 90° rotation is allowed.
- Set workshop rules: define trim, cut allowance, reusable-offcut limits, purchase buffer and optimization preference.
- Optimize: the calculator uses existing material first, generates recursive guillotine layouts and purchases only when inventory cannot complete the schedule.
- Issue the plan: verify every pane, review cutting layouts, save reusable offcuts, export CSV, download a cutting sheet or share the exact plan by link / QR / WhatsApp.
Why reusable glass offcuts matter
A leftover rectangle is not automatically waste. If it satisfies your minimum usable width, height and optional area, this calculator keeps it separate from scrap so it can return to stock for a later job.
How the 2D Glass Cutting Optimizer Works
The calculator models each usable sheet area as a rectangle and repeatedly places required panes into free rectangles. Every placement is split with an edge-to-edge vertical-first or horizontal-first guillotine sequence, creating new rectangular free areas that can accept later panes.
It tests several practical placement strategies and candidate starting panes. Existing inventory is always evaluated before purchasable sheets. Identical completed layouts are grouped into repeatable patterns for the cutting floor.
Reusable leftover is not counted as true scrap. True scrap is reported from edge trim, cutting allowance loss and free rectangles that fall below your reusable-offcut criteria.
Assumptions & Limitations
- This version optimizes rectangular panes and rectangular stock only; circles, holes, notches and free-form shapes are outside the model.
- Run incompatible glass types, thicknesses, coatings or specifications as separate plans unless they are genuinely interchangeable.
- The rotation checkbox controls whether a pane may be turned 90°. Lock it when orientation matters.
- The browser optimizer uses a fast multi-strategy heuristic. Another arrangement may occasionally produce a lower theoretical cost, waste or number of cuts.
- Actual fabrication may require process-specific allowances for edge quality, damaged edges, handling, breakage, coating restrictions or machine limitations.
- Confirm that the glass is suitable for the planned cutting stage. Finished heat-treated glass generally requires fabrication before the heat-treatment process.
- Prices are optional and exclude freight, tax, labour, edgework, tempering, lamination and supplier minimum-order rules unless you incorporate those costs into your own inputs.
