Make sense of the sugar on a label
Sugar numbers on food labels are easy to misread: grams, teaspoons, β% Daily Valueβ, per 100 g and per serving all describe the same thing in different ways. These tools convert between them. Start with sugar grams to teaspoons (about 4 g per teaspoon), sugar calories (4 kcal per gram) or % DV to grams, where 100% DV is 50 g of added sugar on US labels.
To see how a food fits into a day, the daily added sugar limit compares American Heart Association limits (25 g for women and children, 36 g for men) with WHO advice (under 10% of energy, ideally under 5%). The sugary drinks calculator, product comparison and intake tracker make those limits practical.
These are general nutrition references, not personal dietary advice. People managing diabetes or other conditions should follow their care teamβs targets.
